Popular Japanese Retailer Uniqlo finally had its long awaited Grand Opening in San Francisco yesterday. Its first attempts to open small stores in East Coast towns like New Jersey showed disappointing results, but the owners have strategized their way to success by focusing more on “high-traffic urban locations, and paying big bucks for splashy marketing.” They did not only import Japanese clothing, they brought its technology as well.
“Its most cutting-edge touch: The “Magic Mirror,” a virtual dressing room on a 60-inch digital monitor.”
This is only the first of many stores that Uniqlo plans on opening on the west coast. Further, they have an aggressive plan to opening 200 to 300 stores around the world in the upcoming year. Previous to the opening, the CEO stated that they expect it to be the largest selling store on the street, and so far, he seems to be correct!
